Ruth Hardy Schmidt graduated with a BS in Nursing from the University of Utah. She worked as a nursing supervisor at Primary Children’s Medical Center. She then received her Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University where she wrote the Medical Malpractice Chapter in “Summary of Utah Law: Unintentional Injuries to Persons and Property” in Brigham Young University Journal of Legal Studies and served as the executive editor of the journal the following year. She was the first nurse-attorney in the State of Utah and practiced law for a number of years. Ruth has retired from law and currently works as an executive researcher and assistant to John W. Welch. She and her husband (Larry) have three children and a growing number of grandchildren.
